Labour and Rebuilding Social Security
Excellent round up of the Labour Policy announced this week – demonstrating the move away from the destruction of American import ‘Welfare’ and the abuse of the poor.
Labour are reconstructing, from the foundations up, the nature of our social contract. We are connected, we are together whether we like it or not! and we have an obligation to ourselves, to our neighbours, to our society in and out or work.
This policy includes the right to collectively negotiate for manageable rents in private tenancies – an effective rent cap – with the Housing Benefit savings to be spent on building social housing for rent ( Council Housing), living wage for govt employees, no zero hour contracts, the re-introduction of the contributory level in unemployment support…
This is a shift away from blaming the recipients, to asking employers and corporations to recognise their responsibility to the social structure upon which they build their profit.
This is finally a Labour Party with a new way, not an original idea, but an identifiable move away from the internecine rich versus poor battles of the last 30+ years.
This is a new direction.
Just don’t expect to hear anything about it on mainstream television, news media or in the newspapers. It has already been either silenced or if discussed, ‘misreported’ and ‘misrepresented’ into the more of the same, no new ideas Media dahlings Labour meme.
Labour is being treated like the nominal woman in a man’s club – belittled, insulted, abused, externally defined and contained or just plain ignored! This is the outward demonstration of Coallition fear. It does make me chuckle…
Keep at it Labour, you’ve got them rattled.
