Women MPs should ‘toughen up’.
Women MPs should ‘toughen up’..
Interesting.
As I tentatively tiptoe into politics, I recognise that it is as shark infested as many male dominated working environments.
Where women are expected to become ‘like the men’ rather than the men to ever challenge their behaviour and change the damn context to a professional meritocracy without cabals, undercurrents of covert – and blatant – power or the ancient and modern factions which determine to preserve the status quo for the minority and privileged.
Perhaps I have experienced enough male bullying to not be phased? Well yes I have as it goes, but regardless, it terrifies me that I may be given both the opportunity and the challenge to negotiate my way through the rows of teeth and blood stained froth.
The alternative is to back down and do nothing – and that is never going to happen.
The problem isn’t that some women find it too brutal to survive, the problem is that this arcane behaviour still exists in the 21C and is allowed to continue poisoning democracy for everyone.
The only way to change it is to get the hell in there and go shark fishing.
Anyone seen my harpoon?
